We run seven community and family centres in south Leeds, spaces in Middleton, Belle Isle, Beeston and Holbeck, which provide warm and welcoming spaces for our service beneficiaries, community groups, staff and volunteers. All were reclaimed from disuse or underuse, in response to demand from local people. Located within the hearts of communities, each hosts a range of facilities meeting local need.

Recognising our 30 years’ experience in this field, in 2022 Health for All was approached to support communities in two other very different areas of the city to help secure the future of their local community centre. Crucially, each had a dedicated, inspiring group of local people passionate about their local area and the active support of their local councillors.

Cottingley Community Centre

Cottingley Community Centre had been serving the local community for forty years but faced imminent closure, was saved in December 2022 by local volunteers and elected members supported by HFA. Our charity now employs the Centre Community Engagement worker and support staff. The Centre, now thriving, provides space for local community groups, hosts the only GP surgery on the estate, and runs a weekly Community Food Pantry, Free Shop and newly refurbished Community Garden and Growing area.

Vicars Court Community Centre and Nursery

Vicars Court Community Centre and Nursery based in semi rural Allerton Bywater has been closed for four years but a dedicated group of local volunteers, now a new registered charity, was determined to reopen their Centre and Community Nursery. Helped by HFA and with strong support from local elected members and MP, the refurbished Nursery opened in April 2025.  Community Consultations are now shaping plans to reopen the large Community Centre, a former school, as a Community Hub for Allerton Bywater and surrounding villages, providing space for groups and services serving all ages, including a Community Café and Food Pantry to meet local need.

Plans for each centre are progressing, the prospect of long term leases opening up opportunities to secure grants for capital improvements and running costs.
