Our health related Time to Shine projects are funded by Big Lottery Community Fund through Leeds Older People’s Forum. We have two projects; Connections and Sunshine in Leeds, each designed to reach out to and engage the most isolated and vulnerable older people through life enhancing activities. The teams include a qualified Occupational Therapist.
Connections
Connections focuses on reducing the isolation experienced by many older men, engaging them in rewarding activities including walking, singing, woodwork, photography and gardening. The project is run by committed volunteers and facilitators who find innovative, supportive ways to connect older men within their communities.
Sunshine in Leeds
Our Sunshine in Leeds project works primarily with BAME (Black and Minority ethnic) communities with a specific focus on Black African, Black Caribbean or Eastern European communities, including those living in sheltered accommodation. Alongside an occupational therapist, our team works with individual older people to remove barriers which prevent them from participating in social activities, engaging and involving them in group outings to improve mental and physical wellbeing.
