Breastfeeding Peer Support
Leeds Breastfeeding Peer Support
- 5000+ Breastfeeding mums reached annually
- 100 Active Breastfeeding Peer Supporters
- 8 Peer Support Groups supported weekly
Our breastfeeding support programme is funded by LCC Public Health and provides advice and support from specialist, trained advisers to new mums. In addition, we train experienced mums as peer supporters, Bosom Buddies, who can provide guidance face-to-face, on the telephone or through social media to other new mums. We run weekly Breastfeeding Support groups within warm, friendly family and Children’s centres. To date, we have trained over 100 women to become breastfeeding peer supporters, facilitate 8 support groups across Leeds and continue to expand the network across the city
Breastfeeding support project (Better Start Bradford)

Better Start Bradford delivers a range of programmes which help children in Bowling and Barkarend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton receive the best start in life. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Health for All delivers the Breastfeeding Support service, which is offered to every new mum in the Better Start Bradford area. Based within INSPIRE, the trained staff team provide one to one support to new mums within their own homes. The next phase will focus on establishing, as with the HFA Leeds model, Peer Support groups meeting regularly in local community venues.
