Social Action on Climate Change
Green Futures
Green Futures is a vibrant Youth Group meeting weekly at Beeston Village Community centre with a forty strong membership of young people from diverse cultures aged between 14 and 17 years, planning actions and activities to address climate change and make a difference! The Project was initially funded by Children in Need, then more recently in 2024/5 by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, providing volunteering opportunities in addition to training in social media, confidence building and communication, building confidence and skills.
The group visited the Veolia Waste Management site with Our Future Beeston, learning about recycling. Other actions include a litter picking campaign in the local park, survey at the Health for All Food Pantries on plant based diets and junk food, lobbying elected members about reducing junk food adverts in the area, tree planting workshop grafting and growing new fruit trees, Recycling and Information Stalls at local Festivals in Beeston and Holbeck.
